Islamabad: Pakistan has taken strong retaliatory steps against India after a deadly terror attack in Kashmir. On Thursday, Pakistan announced the immediate closure of its airspace to all Indian-owned and Indian-operated airlines, according to a report by Reuters.
In addition, Pakistan said it was suspending all trade with India, including goods that pass through its territory to or from third countries. The government also reacted sharply to India’s decision to pause the Indus Waters Treaty, a key water-sharing agreement between the two countries.
A government statement said, “Any move to obstruct or redirect the flow of water allocated to Pakistan, or any violation of its rights as a lower riparian state, will be treated as an ‘act of war’.”
These decisions came just a day after India announced several steps to downgrade ties with Islamabad following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians were killed. It was the deadliest attack on civilians in the region in nearly 20 years.
