Mumbai: Mumbai is all set to get a major boost in its public transport system as Phase 2A of the underground Mumbai Metro Line 3, also called the Aqua Line, is nearing completion. This stretch will connect Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli. The development was confirmed by Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), in a television interview on Wednesday.
She said that the project is in its final stage and is waiting for the nod from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), which is expected in the next two days. Once approved, the stretch will be added to Mumbai’s growing metro network.
“With 60 kilometres already operational, Mumbai’s metro footprint will soon extend to 374 kilometers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region,” Bhide said. She added that nearly one crore commuters will benefit from the full network once all the corridors are up and running.
Although no official inauguration date has been announced yet, it is widely speculated that the launch might take place on Maharashtra Day, May 1, or during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai on May 2.
