Ferozepur: A Border Security Force (BSF) constable was detained by Pakistan Rangers on Wednesday after he accidentally crossed the international border near Punjab’s Ferozepur district. The jawan, identified as a member of the BSF’s 182nd Battalion, was in uniform and carrying his service rifle at the time of the incident.

The incident occurred while he was accompanying local farmers near the zero line. He reportedly walked ahead briefly to take rest under the shade and inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory, where he was apprehended by border personnel on the other side.

A flag meeting between BSF officials and Pakistan Rangers was initiated soon after to negotiate the constable’s release. Such accidental crossings have occurred in the past and are usually handled through established communication channels and border management protocols.

The incident takes place amid heightened diplomatic tension between India and Pakistan, following the recent Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. In response, India has adopted a series of measures aimed at isolating Pakistan diplomatically, including the suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals.
