Mumbai: As has been the case as usual every monsoon season, the incessant rainfall since Tuesday evening in Mumbai, in areas like Hindmata, Kurla, Dadar TT, Andheri, Grant Road, Dahisar, Khar, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Malad and Mulund, the city and its suburbs were flooded from head to toe. Heavy rains affected road and rail traffic bringing the metropolis to a grinding halt
Waterlogging on the suburban railway lines had a major impact on traffic on the Central, Harbour and Western railway lines. Houses and shops were also water logged in various areas in the city.
BYL Nair hospital was flooded. Also, the house of MNS secretary and former corporator Sandeep Deshpande was flooded. Due to heavy down pours, lawyers and staff could not attend the Mumbai High Court and the court proceedings were canceled on Tuesday. Life of Mumbaikars are already disrupted due to the Covid19 and the heavy rains had furthermore added to the problems as already there are less busses and other mode of transport on the roads for commuting and with the heavy rains yet again the citizens are facing trouble.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Iqbal Chahal, after reviewing the situation in the city and the meteorological department, appealed to the citizens to keep their offices and establishments closed except for essential services and not to leave their homes if not urgent.
After the forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department of heavy rainfalls in the next 24 hours, the state government and BMC had deployed five units of the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) with the Mumbai Fire brigade in case of any emergency in Mumbai.
The Guardian Minister Aditya Thackeray and Municipal Commissioner, Iqbal Chahal inspected the Bandra-Dharavi road, the drive-in theater area and the rainwater harvesting center there.
It started raining in Mumbai from Tuesday evening and further intensified on Wednesday afternoon. After a brief lull, the rain continued throughout the day. As a result, in some places, situation was bad. Milan, Malad, Mankhurd subways also received heavy rainfall. As a result, the road traffic was diverted to this place.

The Arthur Road jail area was also flooded with water and traffic was disrupted. Due to the large amount of water in the area of Grant Road, Parel KEM Hospital, citizens and motorists had to travel through this water.
Impact on rail traffic
The Central Railway’s Kurla-Sion railway line was closed due to waterlogging. Also, the train service between Churchgate and Andheri was closed due to waterlogging on the railway tracks between Prabhadevi and Matunga stations. Also, the railway line between Masjid Bunder, Kurla and Chunabhatti was closed due to water logging. Railway traffic between Andheri and Virar was smooth.
Increase in Mithi river level; Relocation of residents to safer places
Due to the recent torrential rains, the water level in Mithi River has risen slightly and the municipal administration, realizing the seriousness of the situation, the BMC has shifted the residents to other alternative places to avoid any sort of mishap. However, when the level of Mithi river receded, the residents relocated to their homes.
BJP targets the municipality, the ruling party
BJP MLA Ashish Shelar lashed out at the BMC and Shiv Sena, saying that the claims made by the BMC of cleaning of nullah 116% also washed away in today’s rains. BJP’s MP and corporator from North-East Mumbai, Manoj Kotak also targeted Shiv Sena. The pumping stations set up at various places to drain the rain water by squandering crores of rupees have not been used at all. Manoj Kotak has demanded that the municipal corporation should issue a white paper on the overall work of this pumping station as there was corruption in this work.
