Nerul registered highest rainfall of 288.50mm followed by 278.50mm in Belapur

Water logging were reported in nine areas

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai City witnessed a very heavy rain coupled with thunder and lightning which lashed the city badly on Wednesday. The rain in the satellite city which started on the night of September 22 continued throughout on Wednesday. Nerul registered the highest rainfall of 288.50mm followed by Belapur with 278.50mm. 

Overall the city recorded a total rainfall of 3202.74mm of rainfall from on September 22 to Wednesday, September 23. Vashi recorded a rainfall of 186.30mm followed by Kopar Khairane 182.30mm and Airoli 178.80 mm respectively.

Morbe Dam which supplies drinking water to Navi Mumbaikars recorded a total rainfall of 2800.20mm and the dam level has touched 86.40 meter level of its total storage capacity.

Nine areas in the satellite city witnessed water logging and two cases of uprooting of trees were reported according to NMMC data.

Following the BMC orders for the closure of private and government offices excluding essential services even NMMC today in the morning urged the citizens not to travel until unless there was any urgency.

All the motorists were asked by the Navi Mumbai Police, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police to avoid the Belapur-Ulwe and Belapur-JNPT route in view of the warning given by the Meteorological department which had forecasted heavy rainfall till September 25.- By Abhitash D.Singh
