NMMC demands Rs. 251cr from state government for Covid-19 control

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in future will face financial difficulties due to Covid-19 and hence the civic body has demanded Rs.251 crore as financial assistance from the state government to tackle and control the spread of Covid-19 in the city.

The first corona positive patient case was detected on March 13 in the satellite city. Since then the city has now crossed the 34,000 corona positive mark. According to the data and information from the civic body sources the NMMC from March 2020 till date incurred expenses of Rs. 137 crore on Covid-19 facilities and also awareness campaign.

Speaking with thenews21 Abhijit Bangar informed that, “The civic body has given the proposal of Rs. 251 crore from Rajya Aapti Nivaran Nidhi (State Disaster Relief Fund – SDRF) to the state government. NMMC will in future face the financial crunches because of more expenses and less income. Due to Covid-19 the income from various sources to the civic body has been badly affected. Income received from water, property and also many other taxes is not been received on time. Incoming income is not coming on regular basis but the outgoing expenses are increasing at a rapid pace.”

Bangar further added, “As of now the civic body have received Rs 10.40 crore from the central government and Rs 1.48 lakh from the Members of Legislative Assembly ( MLA) funds taking the total to Rs 11.48 crore. Now we are seeking Rs. 251 crore funds from the state government and we will be doing follow-up for it.”

Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde informed, “As the cases in Navi Mumbai are increasing every day, since August 350-400 corona positive cases are getting registered. The state government already extended the supporting hands to all the Municipal Corporation in the state. Many facilities have been opened at Navi Mumbai for Covid-19.”

In Navi Mumbai NMMC with the state government assistance Initiated 1200 beds Covid-19 facility at CIDCO Exhibition Centre in Vashi and at Turbhe Radhaswami Satsang Bhavan 411 oxygen beds hospital. In Nerul NMMC Civic Hospital the civic body Initiated 1000 patients capacity RT-PCR test lab and in APMC Import-Export market 516 oxygen beds hospital and in Sanpada MGM Hospital 75 beds were dedicated for Covid-19 treatment.-By By Abhitash D.Singh
