Fines collected for violating norms set by the civic body under “Mission Begin Again”

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has so far collected fines to the tunes of Rs. 28 lakhs from the people who violated the lockdown norms set up by the civic body. Fines have been collected for spitting in public, not wearing masks and also not following the social distancing norms by both individuals and shop-owners.
The civic body issuing guidelines and norms to be followed during the lockdown as well as post-lockdown started collecting fines from those who were not following them.
The fines collected till date from the civic body is Rs. 28, 16,700. The civic body fixed the fines for various activities which are not allowed during the Coronavirus pandemic. The fine for spitting in the public is Rs. 1000 and for not wearing masks it is Rs.500 whereas for not maintaining social distancing norms it is Rs. 200 from the individuals and from the shop owners and the businesses it is Rs. 2000 for not maintaining social distancing norms.
Abhijit Bangar, NMMC Commissioner while speaking to thenews21, “Under the “Mission Begin Again” we gave relaxations to citizens, shop-owners and businesses and we thought that they would be strictly following all the norms and regulations laid down by the NMMC. However, many citizens and also shop-owners as well as businesses are not following the rules and regulations strictly so we started imposing fines on them. The civic body so far collected the fines to the tunes of Rs. 28, 16,700 from the violators.”

Bangar further added, “We have appealed all the citizens that the way they followed and supported us during “My City My Responsibility” for keeping the city clean helping the city get third rank in cleanliness, in same way they should now support us during “My Family My Responsibility” in bringing down the coronavirus cases or breaking the chain of coronavirus spread. All the citizens should strictly follow the guidelines set by the civic body instead of giving fines. We do not encourage the citizens to pay fines.”
The total fines collected by the civic body for spitting in the public were Rs. 26,000 while for not wearing the masks the amount collected is Rs.11,11,800 and for not maintaining social distancing the fines collected is Rs.1,56,100 from individuals and Rs.15,22,800 from shop-owners and businesses. Overall the fines collected by the civic body are Rs.28, 16,700.-By Abhitash D. Singh
