Medha Kulkarni promised rehabilitation in legislative council?

Mumbai: The dramatic manner in which sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Kothrud refused all overtures from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to hop on to their bandwagon, preferring to be “back-stabbed” than indulge in treachery has begun earning her accolades from party cadres. Sources in the BJP argued that Kulkarni has been assured of rehabilitation in the Legislative Council where biennial elections are due soon.

But sources argue that in the informal chat state BJP president Chandrakant Patil had with Medha Kulkarni and her family is ended all misgivings she and the predominantly Brahmin community of Kothrud had. Not only did she extend the traditional Maharashtrian style welcome to Patil by performing Aarti, she wished him success. In a brief statement she remarked “I won’t mind if someone were to stab a dagger in my back, but I will not betray”.

Medha Kulkarni was in tears after she came to know that she had been denied the party ticket and instead state BJP president Chandrakant Patil has been given ticket from the Kothrud constituency. Ever since the news broke out, anonymous persons began putting up banners in Kothrud area demanding that their MLA should be a local from the Brahmin community and not an outsider. Brahmin community leaders began venting their ire against the BJPs decision on social media platforms.

Hence, Patil calling on Medha Kulkarni and her family at their residence on Wednesday evening was an attempt to clear misgivings and assuring her of her political rehabilitation for making the political sacrifice she has made for the party. One thing however is clear that behind the scenes Pune strongman and Lok Sabha MP Girish Bapat (another Brahmin community leader) is reported to have played a key role in defusing the potential crisis.

Although sources are tight-lipped about the close-door meeting that Patil had with Medha Kulkarni and her family, it is widely believed that she has been promised ticket in the biennial elections to the Legislative Council seats of Governor Nominated members or Elected by MLAs constituency members that are due in the coming few months.
