On Intl Women’s Day MVA announces one percent concession in stamp duty for women

Mumbai: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Maharashtra Finance Minister Ajit Pawar announced a one per cent concession in stamp duty exclusively for women, provided the transfer of house property or registration of sale deed is in the name of women.

State finance and planning minister Ajit Pawar presented the annual statement of income and expenditures (annual budget) for the fiscal year 2020-21 in the Lower House of the state legislature. Minister for the state for finance Shambhuraje Desai presented the budget in the Upper House. 

Pawar announced a new scheme called the Rajmata Jijau Griha-Swamini Yojna. Pawar said that despite a slowdown in the economy, he kept women as a focal point of economic activity. On the eve of International Women’s Day, Pawar announced a one per cent concession in stamp duty over the prevailing rate. Pawar said that due to this tax concession, there will be a revenue shortfall of Rs 1000 crore in the state exchequer.

Pawar also announced the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule scheme. He said this scheme includes free travel for girl students in rural areas, from their villages to the schools by the Maharashtra State Transport buses.

“The state will provide 1500 environment-friendly CNG and Hybrid buses to the State Transport Corporation on a priority basis,” said Pawar. He added that special buses for women under the Tejasvini Yojna will be provided for easy and safe travel of women in metro cities.

It has proposed in the budget that to empowerwomen and children, it has been decided to reserve 3 per cent funds from the District Plan. Also, the first women battalion of the State Reserve Police Force in the state has been proposed.
