Mumbai: Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra legislative assembly, Devendra Fadnavis today asked Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray to take an experts opinion to pursue the Nanar refinery project in Ratnagiri district.

Fadnavis said the chief minister should consult someone like the former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission of India, Dr Anil Kakodkar to clear the doubts and understand the issue.

Talking to reporters in Mumbai, he said, Nanar oil refinery is an important milestone from the development point of view of the Konkan region. He said it is a green refinery.

Referring to an oil refinery in neighbouring Gujarat, Fadnavis said, good quality mangoes and orchards grow near the refinery. Besides, the misconceptions about the refinery are completely wrong. The former chief minister said, the project will provide employment opportunities and will give momentum to economic activity.

He said it will be the biggest investment in the history of the state from an economic point of view.

Fadnavis said that he has received a letter from Maharastra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president, Raj Thackeray extending his support to the Nanar oil refinery. “I welcome the letter from Raj Thackeray. He has spoken to Dr Anil Kakodkar to clear his doubts about the development of Konkan. He is not only going to help in supporting the refinery but is also going to draft a blueprint”, Fadnavis stated.

“When I had visited Nanar that time people who own 10,000 acres of land had extended their support to the project. Shiv Sena should allow resuming the project for the benefit of Maharashtra”, he said.

Speaking on the death of Mansukh Hiren, Fadnavis said, “I had apprised the state government that there was a threat to his (Hiren’s) life and unfortunately he died. Maharashtra ATS has registered an FIR in the matter. Whatever I have been revealing is turning out to be true.

Supporting the state government to transfer the case of the reservation to the Maratha community to the larger bench, he said, the case should be fought strongly.
