Just days ahead of the Maharashtra municipal elections, internal tensions within the Samajwadi Party (SP) have come into sharp focus. SP MLA Rais Shaikh has written a detailed letter to party national president Akhilesh Yadav, raising serious allegations against Maharashtra SP chief Abu Asim Azmi, warning that the dispute could hurt the party’s performance in crucial civic battles.

In the letter, Shaikh alleged that Abu Asim Azmi has been taking key organisational decisions independently, particularly in the distribution of tickets for the Bhiwandi and Mumbai municipal corporation elections. He claimed that local leaders and grassroots workers were ignored, leading to widespread dissatisfaction within the party’s Maharashtra unit.

The MLA also expressed concern over what he described as Azmi’s public assertions of unchecked authority. According to Shaikh, remarks suggesting that “no one can stop him” have unsettled party workers and weakened internal discipline at a sensitive political moment.

Shaikh warned that the growing internal friction is already affecting campaign coordination and morale, especially in Bhiwandi and Mumbai, where the SP is looking to strengthen its urban presence. He cautioned that continued infighting could severely dent the party’s credibility and electoral prospects.
