Election Commission orders suspension of five police officers in Diamond Harbour during West Bengal elections
The Election Commission has suspended five Diamond Harbour police officers over alleged misconduct during the West Bengal Assembly elections

Patna: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday confirmed that not a single appeal has been filed with District Magistrates regarding discrepancies in Bihar’s final voter list, as of October 9.

Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer shared that across all 243 Assembly constituencies, zero appeals have been received under Section 24(A) of the Representation of the People Act concerning additions or deletions of names by Electoral Registration Officers.

In an X post, the ECI stated: “During the Special Intensive Revision Campaign, 2025 in the state of Bihar, no appeals have been received by the District Magistrate under Section 24(A) of the Representation of the People Act regarding the addition or deletion of names in the electoral roll by the Electoral Registration Officer in all 243 Assembly Constituencies until 09.10.2025.”

The final voter list for the Bihar Assembly elections, published on September 30, includes 7.42 crore eligible voters. While the publication drew protests from the Opposition, alleging deletion of valid voter names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, the ECI mandated that any appeals regarding inclusion or deletion should be filed with respective District Magistrates. Despite this, no objections have been registered so far.

The voter revision process began in June, when Bihar had 7.89 crore registered voters. Following the revision, 65 lakh names were removed, and citizens were given 30 days to file claims or objections.

Earlier, the ECI clarified that voters can use any one of 12 alternative photo IDs, besides the Electors’ Photo Identity Card (EPIC), to cast their vote. However, it emphasized that only those whose names appear on the electoral roll are eligible to vote.
