‘Bihar Wants Better Leadership’: Prashant Kishor Targets BJP After Taking Commanding Lead In Bankipur Bypoll

Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Monday declared that the Bankipur Assembly by-election was more than a contest to elect an MLA, asserting that the electorate had sent a clear political message to the BJP leadership about the future direction of Bihar.

With counting trends showing him comfortably ahead of BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Kishor said the result reflected people’s aspirations for stronger governance, improved education and better employment opportunities in the state.

Addressing reporters, Kishor said, “This election is not just about choosing an MLA. It is about sending a message to the BJP’s top leadership that Bihar deserves a capable Chief Minister who can provide better education and employment opportunities. The people have delivered that message.”

Focus Should Be On Bihar’s Future, Says Kishor

Although he acknowledged that the NDA government would continue in power due to its comfortable majority in the Assembly, Kishor maintained that the bypoll outcome carried political significance beyond the constituency.

He said the verdict reflected public expectations for a leadership capable of addressing Bihar’s long-standing issues, particularly unemployment and migration.

Thanking voters for their support, Kishor added, “I thank everyone who voted for me. I will also try to win the trust of those who did not support me. What matters most is that Bihar gets good leadership. Migration from the state must stop.”

High-Profile Contest In BJP Stronghold

The Bankipur by-election attracted significant political attention after the seat fell vacant when former MLA Nitin Nabin resigned following his elevation as the BJP’s national president and subsequent election to the Rajya Sabha.

Nabin had enjoyed an uninterrupted winning streak from the constituency after the 2008 delimitation, securing victories in the 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025 Assembly elections.

Prashant Kishor’s strong performance in the BJP bastion has added a new political dimension to Bihar’s evolving electoral landscape, with the final result expected later in the day.
