Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai unit of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) recently gave a 7 days deadline to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Abhijit Bangar to take legal action against the private hospitals in the satellite city or they will felicitate the civic body chief with the Saviour of Private Hospitals Award.

According to the senior leader from MNS already the four days of the deadline have passed and now only three days are remaining. If in three days no action is initiated by NMMC municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar then MNS will go ahead and felicitate him.

When this Correspondent contacted the Navi Mumbai MNS President Gajanan Kale to know about the felicitation of NMMC Commissioner with Savior of Private Hospitals on September 12, 2020 he said, “We have given seven days deadline to the NMMC Commissioner Abhijit Bangar and already four days have passed. If in three days if he does not initiate any action against the private hospitals who are looting the common man of the city then we will go ahead with our protest which is felicitating the NMMC Commissioner with the Saviour of Private Hospitals award.”

Gajanan Kale further added, ” We have three demands from the NMMC Commissioner Abhijit Bangar and they are first taking legal action against the private hospitals which are looting the common man and second is cancellation of Covid-19 registration of any private hospitals in the city for at least two to three months so that no Covid-19 patients visits there and third is that the civic body should conduct the pre-audit and have a check at the exorbitant bills issued by the private hospitals and if the bills charged by the hospitals is exorbitant then it should be returned back to the patients family. If one patient has paid Rs.5 lakh bill to the private hospital but after an audit if it is found that 2 Lakh would be the maximum bill which has been charged from the patients then 3 lakh should be returned to the patients family.”

” The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have returned Rs. 25 crore to the common man when they complained about the exorbitant bills by private hospitals and the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) returned Rs.2 crore to all those who complained about the exorbitant bills. BMC took legal action against well-known hospitals like Lilavati in Mumbai and also filed FIR on them for charging exorbitant bills. Even the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) took action against one private hospital and cancelled the registration for two months. All the municipal corporations are taking action as also returning money to all those who complained about exorbitant bills then why NMMC not returned a single penny even after several complaints by the common citizens of exorbitant bills by private hospitals” informed Kale.

When we inquired NMMC Chief about the action by the civic body he replies that we have formed the committee which will be headed by the additional commissioner of NMMC and it will look after the exorbitant bills charged by the private hospitals and later the audit committee was formed and now they have come up with the dedicated call centre for complaining about the exorbitant bills charged by the hospitals, but until unless no constructive action will be taken by NMMC Chief then everything will keep on continuing so we need to protest and take action said Kale.- By Abhitash D.Singh
