Bokaro: In a major anti-Naxal operation on Monday morning, at least nine Naxals were gunned down during an intense encounter with CoBRA commandos of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand Police in the Lugu Hills of Bokaro district.

The gunfight erupted around 5:30 am in the dense forests under the Lalpania police station limits, based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Naxal elements in the region. “The operation is still ongoing,” officials confirmed.

Personnel from the 209 Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a specialized jungle warfare unit of the CRPF, spearheaded the operation. “Six Naxals were killed in the initial phase of the operation, and security forces recovered two INSAS rifles, a self-loading rifle (SLR), and a pistol from the site,” officials said, later confirming the toll had risen to nine. No injuries were reported among the security forces.

This encounter comes days after a similar anti-Maoist operation in West Singhbhum district on April 14, where security forces demolished 11 Maoist bunkers and recovered seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

In another recent development, CRPF and Jharkhand Police detected two IEDs in a forested area near Bakrabeda village under Tonto police station jurisdiction. “The explosives were defused successfully by the bomb disposal squad,” Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar said.
