After a brief respite from scorching temperatures last week, Mumbai is bracing for another heatwave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a surge of up to 37 degrees Celsius over the next few days.
Despite the anticipated rise in temperatures, meteorologists have not issued a heatwave warning for the city at present.
On Sunday, temperatures remained below normal, with the Colaba observatory recording a maximum of 30.8 degrees Celsius and the Santacruz observatory registering 32.5 degrees Celsius.
This marks a significant contrast from the previous week, when Mumbai experienced consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 38 degrees Celsius, nearly reaching heatwave conditions.
Notably, the city recorded its hottest March temperature for the year at 38.8 degrees Celsius. However, historical data from the weather bureau indicates that the highest March temperature in the past decade occurred in 2018, peaking at 41 degrees Celsius on March 26.
Last year’s warmest March day saw temperatures reaching 39.4 degrees Celsius, underscoring the recurring trend of rising temperatures in the region.
