New Delhi: In a powerful show of democratic unity, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, long-time ideological adversaries, will represent India together on a diplomatic mission to Muslim-majority countries. The rare collaboration comes in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s military response, Operation Sindoor.
Calling the development the “most beautiful face of democracy,” Dubey praised the Centre’s decision to send the diverse team abroad. “I am grateful to the honourable Prime Minister for choosing me to speak in Muslim countries about Pakistan’s actions and India’s 78-year-long fight against terrorism. The most beautiful face of democracy is that Owaisi sahab and I will jointly represent Indian democracy and the respect Muslims receive in India,” Dubey said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The seven-member delegation, led by BJP national vice president Baijayant Panda, will visit Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria as part of India’s global outreach to expose Pakistan’s terror networks. Other members include Phangnon Konyak, Rekha Sharma, nominated MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, and ex-foreign secretary Harsh Shringla.
The government has also announced plans to dispatch six more delegations to different regions, reinforcing India’s campaign against terrorism.
The collaboration between Dubey and Owaisi is especially striking given their recent public spat. Last month, Dubey sparked controversy by saying Parliament and state assemblies “should be shut” after the Supreme Court’s Tamil Nadu verdict. The BJP distanced itself from his comments.
Owaisi sharply criticized Dubey in Parliament, saying, “You are threatening the courts? Article 142 was included by BR Ambedkar. He was far more visionary than you,” cautioning against rhetoric that could embolden anti-democratic forces.
Despite the exchange, Owaisi accepted the mission with seriousness: “This is not about party affiliation. We will have a detailed meeting before departure. It is an important task and I will try my best to fulfil it with sincerity,” he said.
Their united front is being seen as a symbolic message of India’s democratic resilience—bridging political divides to counter terrorism on the global stage.
