The final result of the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation election is out after repolling in Ward 50, with the BJP finishing with 45 seats and the Congress closely behind with 44.
BJP candidate Hemaram Choudhary won Ward 50 in the repoll held on Thursday, September 17. His victory completed the results for all 100 wards of the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation.
Independent candidates also made their presence felt, winning 11 wards.
Jodhpur Civic Poll Final Tally
The final ward-wise tally in the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation is:
- BJP: 45 wards
- Congress: 44 wards
- Independents: 11 wards
The result leaves the BJP just one seat ahead of the Congress in the 100-member civic body.
Repoll Held After EVM Technical Issue
The repoll in Ward 50 followed technical problems reported during the counting process of the Rajasthan urban local body elections.
Repolling was held at 10 polling stations across Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota and Suket on September 16. Five polling stations were in Jaipur, three in Kota, one in Jodhpur and one in Suket.
The State Election Commission had received complaints about EVM-related technical issues at these locations while votes were being counted.
Over 71 Per Cent Voters Turned Out In Jodhpur
Jodhpur recorded a voter turnout of 71.95 per cent across its 100 wards.
Out of 7,12,164 registered voters, 5,12,410 cast their votes in the civic election.
The closely fought result comes as the BJP and Congress prepare for the next major electoral contest in Rajasthan. The urban local body polls have also provided both parties with an indication of their support in important cities and towns.
BJP Leads Overall Rajasthan Civic Results
Across Rajasthan, the BJP finished ahead of the Congress in the overall ward tally.
The BJP won 4,179 wards, while the Congress secured 3,613 wards. Independent candidates won 2,273 wards and played an important role in several civic bodies.
The Congress managed to secure a majority in the Bikaner Municipal Corporation and also performed strongly in Jhalawar Municipal Council.
Independent candidates recorded a major result in Bharatpur Municipal Corporation, where they won 36 of the 65 wards.
The Aam Aadmi Party also made a breakthrough in Baran during the Rajasthan urban local body elections.
Two-Phase Polling Across Rajasthan
The urban local body elections were conducted in two phases on September 9 and September 11.
The first phase covered 162 urban local bodies and recorded a voter turnout of 76.42 per cent. The second phase involved 147 urban local bodies, with turnout reaching 70.68 per cent.
With the Ward 50 repoll now completed, the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation’s final election picture has been settled, with the BJP at 45 seats, Congress at 44 and Independents at 11.
