“Use Public Transport, Avoid Unnecessary Travel”: Mahayuti Leaders Back PM Modi’s Fuel-Saving Appeal Amid Global Crisis

Maharashtra’s ruling Mahayuti alliance on Monday strongly supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide appeal urging citizens to conserve fuel, reduce unnecessary spending and adopt energy-saving practices in view of the growing instability caused by the ongoing West Asia conflict.

The Prime Minister had called upon people to use public transport, avoid wasteful fuel consumption and revive measures such as work-from-home arrangements to help India manage the economic impact of rising geopolitical tensions and global energy uncertainty.

Fadnavis Warns of Possible Future Fuel Pressure

Reacting to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran has increased pressure on international oil and gas supplies, affecting several countries across the world.

He noted that disruptions in global supply chains have already led to fuel shortages and rising energy prices in many neighbouring nations.

Fadnavis said India’s fuel availability currently remains stable due to advance planning and diplomatic efforts by the central government, but cautioned that careless consumption could create future difficulties if the international crisis deepens further.

According to the Chief Minister, citizens must understand the seriousness of the global situation and participate responsibly by reducing unnecessary fuel usage.

Leaders Stress Economic Discipline

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale also endorsed the Prime Minister’s appeal, saying the government was focused on protecting the interests of ordinary citizens during uncertain global conditions.

He emphasised the importance of strengthening India’s domestic economy and promoting locally manufactured products through initiatives such as “Make in India.”

Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC described the Prime Minister’s message as a precautionary and voluntary public appeal aimed at encouraging responsible consumption habits.

She said fluctuations in global crude oil prices and increasing import costs could impact India’s economy if timely preventive measures are not adopted.

PM Calls for Public Participation

During a public gathering at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to collectively contribute towards reducing economic stress arising from international conflicts, supply disruptions and rising fuel prices.

He encouraged people to reduce petrol and diesel usage by using Metro rail services, buses, car-pooling and electric vehicles wherever possible.

The Prime Minister also suggested reviving some of the efficient practices adopted during the Covid-19 period, including virtual meetings, online conferences and work-from-home systems to reduce travel and fuel consumption.

Appeal to Avoid Unnecessary Foreign Spending

Apart from fuel conservation, PM Modi appealed to citizens to avoid non-essential overseas travel, destination weddings and expensive foreign vacations in order to help preserve India’s foreign exchange reserves during a volatile global economic period.

He further urged people to prioritise Indian-made goods and support domestic industries.

The Prime Minister also addressed the agriculture sector, encouraging farmers to gradually reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers, adopt natural farming techniques and use solar-powered irrigation systems to lower energy costs and improve sustainability.
