As farmers from Uttar Pradesh gear up for a protest march to Parliament on Monday, traffic at the Delhi-Noida border has come to a standstill. The farmers, who are set to begin their march at 12 pm from the Mahamaya flyover, plan to head towards Delhi on foot and in tractors. Thousands of farmers from 20 districts are expected to join the march, demanding several key reforms, including compensation based on new agriculture laws.
In response, the Delhi and Noida police have significantly increased security at the border. Barricades have been set up and multiple route diversions are in place to manage traffic and prevent disruptions. Police forces and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed at major and smaller Delhi-UP borders to maintain law and order.
Apoorva Gupta, DCP East Delhi, commented on the situation, saying, “We have received information about the march and have not permitted the protestors to enter Delhi due to the ongoing Parliament session. We are working closely with Noida Police to ensure smooth coordination, prevent traffic issues, and avoid any law and order disruptions.”
The farmers are marching to Delhi with several demands, including:
- Allocation of 10% plots.
- A 64.7% increase in compensation under the old acquisition law, which would offer four times the market rate.
- 20% plots for land acquired after January 1, 2014.
- Employment and rehabilitation benefits for the children of landless farmers.
Route Diversions To manage the traffic, the following diversions have been implemented:
- Vehicles traveling from the DND Border to Delhi can use the Film City Flyover, Sector 18, and the elevated road.
- Vehicles coming from Kalindi Border in Delhi can reach Sector 37 via Mahamaya Flyover.
- Commuters on the Yamuna Expressway are advised to take the Jewar toll, Khurja, and Jahangirpur routes.
- Those approaching Chilla Border towards Greater Noida can take Sector 14A flyover, Golchakkar Chowk, Sector 15, Sandeep Paper Mill Chowk, and Jhundpura Chowk.
- Vehicles traveling to Delhi via Sirsa and Pari Chowk should use Dadra and Dasna.
- Greater Noida-bound vehicles can take the Hajipur underpass towards Kalindi Kunj and then head towards Sector 51 via Model Town.
With the protest march expected to cause significant disruptions, authorities are urging commuters to avoid the affected routes and plan their travels accordingly.
