‘Bengal Will Hit Back’: Mamata Banerjee Warns BJP After Massive 92% Poll Turnout, Says People Are ‘United and Ready’

Mamata Banerjee Exudes Confidence After Bengal’s Record Phase 1 Voting

Sending out a strong political message after the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday declared that the people of Bengal are “united and ready” to defeat what she described as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s attempt to divide the state and weaken its cultural identity.

With the first phase recording an impressive turnout of over 92 per cent, the All India Trinamool Congress chief expressed confidence that voters would give a “decisive democratic pushback” to the BJP.

In a strongly worded post on X, Banerjee said the people of West Bengal are prepared to defend the state’s rights and reject outside interference.

‘Every Attempt to Undermine Bengal Will Be Defeated’: Mamata

After meeting people across Chowrangee, Bhabanipur, Jadavpur and Tollyganj, Banerjee said voters were determined to protect Bengal’s identity, language and future.

“Every attempt to undermine Bengal will be met with a decisive democratic pushback. This election is about resisting a systematic attempt to weaken Bengal and control it,” Banerjee said.

Taking direct aim at the BJP leadership, she warned that any move to “snatch Bengal’s rights” would be firmly rejected by the people.

Her remarks come amid an aggressive campaign battle between the TMC and the Bharatiya Janata Party, with both sides portraying the election as crucial for Bengal’s future.

Banerjee Says Welfare and Development Will Defeat ‘Delhi’s Politics’

Projecting her government’s welfare programmes as the backbone of public support, Banerjee said development in West Bengal has reached every section of society despite what she termed “constant obstruction” from the Centre.

She described the state’s welfare schemes as “lifelines” that have improved the lives of ordinary citizens and asserted that no political force could take away those benefits.

According to Banerjee, the people of West Bengal stand for peace, dignity and progress, and their support remains the Trinamool Congress’ greatest strength as she seeks a fourth consecutive term in office.

Mamata Appeals for Unity to ‘Protect Bengal’s Language and Culture’

In an emotional appeal to voters, Banerjee urged citizens to vote beyond political differences to protect the state’s cultural identity.

“I urge every citizen to rise above differences, stand united, and vote to protect Bengal’s language, culture, and future,” she said.

She also appealed for support for TMC candidates in key constituencies, including Nayna Bandopadhyay in Chowrangee, Debabrata Majumdar in Jadavpur, and Aroop Biswas in Tollyganj, along with all “Maa-Mati-Manush” nominees.

The message was aimed at consolidating voter support in urban strongholds as the campaign intensifies ahead of the second phase.

Historic Turnout Raises Political Stakes in Bengal

Banerjee’s confident message comes after West Bengal recorded over 92 per cent voter turnout in the first phase of the Assembly elections, one of the highest participation rates in the state’s electoral history.

According to the Election Commission of India, the first phase saw strong voter enthusiasm, with women voters turning out in especially high numbers, signalling heightened public engagement.

The second phase of voting is scheduled for April 29, while counting will take place on May 4, setting the stage for a high-voltage political battle in one of India’s most closely watched elections.
