Mumbai : Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray sharply criticized Election Commission (EC) officials on Monday after they inspected his bags upon his arrival at a helipad in Yavatmal’s Wani area. Thackeray, in a video recording of the incident, expressed his frustration, questioning whether top leaders from rival parties have been subject to similar checks, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and others.
In a mockingly defiant tone, Thackeray is heard in the video sarcastically instructing officials to “check my urine pot and the helicopter fuel tank as well.” He went on to ask, “Have you checked the bags of Modi, Shah, Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, or Eknath Shinde?” suggesting that such inspections should not single out opposition leaders. Thackeray added, “I want to see a video of you checking Modi’s bags,” underscoring what he views as unequal treatment by the EC.
Following the incident, Thackeray addressed a gathering, reiterating his concern over the EC’s selective scrutiny. “I’m not angry at the system; they’re doing their job, and I’m doing mine,” he said. “But have they checked the bags of PM Modi and Amit Shah? Shouldn’t the same standards apply to Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, and Devendra Fadnavis?”
