Pune: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has weighed in on the controversy at Shaniwarwada Fort in Pune, urging that all laws and regulations regarding heritage sites be strictly observed. He emphasized that any violation would be met with firm action.

The dispute erupted after three women offered namaz at Shaniwarwada, prompting a strong reaction from BJP MP Medha Kulkarni. Kulkarni, along with party workers, visited the site and performed a ritual using cow urine to ‘purify’ the area, igniting debates across political lines.

While some BJP members backed Kulkarni, her actions faced criticism from the party’s allies. Shiv Sena leader Neelam Gorhe underscored that Shaniwarwada is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and called for strict enforcement of preservation laws. Similarly, NCP leader Rupali Patil Thombre demanded a case against Kulkarni for allegedly inciting communal tension.

Following the incident, the ASI registered a case to investigate potential violations at the heritage site. Pune police have confirmed they are coordinating with ASI authorities before taking further steps. Deputy Commissioner of Police Krushikesh Rawale assured that the matter is being handled seriously and in accordance with the law.
