Patna: In a significant development ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, RJD candidate Shweta Suman’s nomination from the Kaimur Mohaniya constituency has been cancelled by the Election Commission. The decision comes after it was found that Suman had listed her native place as Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh in the 2020 Bihar elections, but in the 2025 polls, she declared her residence as Bihar.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission alleging irregularities, which led to the cancellation on Wednesday. Suman was called for scrutiny, where she was informed that her nomination could not be accepted. She has the option to challenge the decision in court if she chooses.

Suman expressed dissatisfaction with the process, alleging that the Returning Officer (RO) and Constituency Officer (CO) were under pressure and unwilling to consider her arguments. She claimed that officials were influenced by external factors, hinting at directives from Delhi, and described the situation as an attempt to undermine democratic processes in Bihar.

“This decision was predetermined, and officials reportedly told me they were helpless due to continuous pressure from higher authorities. I was not given a fair opportunity to present my case,” Suman said. She also accused the BJP and Bihar government of trying to manipulate the election process and compromise democracy.
