Strong room access sparks controversy
Kolkata: A fresh political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after Trinamool Congress leader and Shyampukur candidate Shashi Panja raised concerns over alleged irregularities involving a strong room. She claimed that unauthorized access to a sealed room has triggered serious questions about transparency and protocol during the election process.
“Rules should be followed”
“There has been a very serious lapse. In camera number 17, we saw that there were people in the strong room which had been sealed by our agents. If you are opening that door, you should have informed all the political parties,” Panja said, questioning the procedure followed by authorities.
Lack of communication questioned
Panja further pointed out that officials later cited communication gaps as the reason behind the incident. “Yesterday, they said an email was sent, but if any political party had been present, we wouldn’t have objected. There was no one there, so why was the room opened?” she asked.
Transparency concerns deepen
The TMC leader also criticised the absence of clear answers during official briefings. “They informally admitted there was a lack of communication and transparency, but this was not addressed properly in the press conference,” she added.
Political tensions rise
While Panja clarified that her party is not panicking, she stressed the importance of strict adherence to rules. The incident has added to the already tense political atmosphere in the state, with opposition and ruling parties closely monitoring election-related procedures.
