Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, recently tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Nupur Shikhare in a joyous celebration attended by close family members. Among those present were Aamir’s first wife, Reena Dutta, his son Junaid Khan, as well as Aamir’s second wife, Kiran Rao, and their son Azad Rao Khan. In a candid interview with The Week, Kiran Rao sheds light on the enduring bond within their family, emphasizing that despite their divorce, they remain united.
Addressing questions about her relationship with Aamir and his family, Kiran Rao shares insights into their inclusive approach to family dynamics. She reveals, “We are all naturally inclusive. We all get together for dinners on Monday nights. We live in a community, and our homes are all in the same housing society.” Kiran emphasizes that maintaining relationships, even after divorce, is crucial, and they continue to cherish their familial ties. Despite parting ways as a couple, Kiran emphasizes, “We are very much a family. Even at the end of a marriage, you’ve put so many years into a relationship, and that should count for something.”
Reflecting on Ira Khan’s pre-wedding festivities, Kiran shares glimpses of their family’s vibrant celebrations, which include activities reflecting their varied interests in music and sports. “We are a large family with varied interests, like music and sports. So, we had an obstacle course, and a sangeet where we teased each other,” she reveals.
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao announced their divorce in 2022 after 15 years of marriage. Their relationship began during the shoot of Lagaan, where Aamir played the lead role and Kiran worked as an assistant director. Despite their decision to part ways, Kiran’s recent remarks highlight the enduring bonds of love and companionship that continue to define their family, transcending the boundaries of marriage.
