Actor and model Ayesha Khan claimed she was detained by Mumbai Police while participating in a demonstration held in support of NEET aspirants, alleging that she and her friends were taken into custody despite not actively participating in the protest. “My hands are literally shivering right now. I’ve been detained in the police van just for standing on the road peacefully. I didn’t say a word. I didn’t even start the protest. I was just standing because my brother, my male friends were detained and we were just standing on road. Me and two of my other female friends,” Ayesha said in one of the videos shared on her Instagram Stories.
The actor also posted another clip from inside the police vehicle, where she was seen asking police personnel where those who had been detained were being taken. In another video recorded during the detention, she requested officers not to push her while escorting her.
Claims Police Detained Her Before Protest Began
Later, speaking from Worli Police Station through another video message, Ayesha said she had arrived at the protest around 4 pm and insisted that neither she nor the others accompanying her had begun demonstrating.
She claimed that they had not raised slogans, displayed placards or blocked roads, and were merely standing near the venue after several of her friends and her brother were detained.
According to Ayesha, nearly 15 police personnel, including women officers, surrounded her and two of her female friends before asking them to board a police vehicle.
“I kept asking why we were being detained. We were just standing on the road. We hadn’t even started protesting. Nobody answered us,” she alleged.
While she said the officers at Worli Police Station behaved politely after they arrived there, she questioned the actions taken at the protest site and alleged that she and her friends were pushed during the detention.
She further questioned the legal basis for the action, saying they were only three people standing together and that the restrictions cited by the police had not yet come into force.
