Karur: The death toll from the stampede at Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay’s campaign rally in Karur has reached 41, following the passing of Suguna, 65, a local resident who was on ventilator support in the ICU.

Among the deceased are 18 women, 13 men, five young girls, and five young boys. The majority of victims, 34, were from Karur district, while two each hailed from Erode, Tiruppur, and Dindigul districts, and one from Salem.

The tragedy unfolded on Saturday evening, when a massive crowd at Vijay’s rally reportedly turned chaotic, leading to panic. Several attendees fainted and were rushed to nearby hospitals, with sources indicating that overcrowding at the venue was the primary cause of the incident.
