A dispute over just ₹10 in change turned deadly in Hyderabad after a 42-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly assaulted in Vattapally on Sunday evening.
The victim was identified as Mohammed Mukarram, a resident of the Vattapally area. The incident took place under the Rajendranagar Police Station limits, and police have registered a case and started an investigation.
According to preliminary reports, the argument began over the change for an auto fare. The disagreement later escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Mukarram was allegedly attacked.
Police reached the area after being alerted about the incident. The victim was taken for medical treatment, but he later died from his injuries, according to local reports. His body was sent for a post-mortem examination, with the report awaited.
Dispute Started Over ₹10 Change
The incident reportedly began after a passenger had to pay a ₹10 auto fare and a ₹200 note was involved in the payment.
AIMIM Bahadurpura MLA Mohd Mubeen, who identified the deceased as Mohammed Mukarram, alleged that the argument over the change quickly became violent.
“The dispute was only over Rs 10 change. He had given a Rs 200 note for a Rs 10 fare,” Mubeen said.
The MLA further alleged that a man identified as Azeem abused Mukarram before calling several associates to the location.
“He then called six to eight associates and beat him to death in the middle of the road, in front of his wife and children,” Mubeen alleged.
The allegations made by the MLA have not been independently established, and police are investigating the exact sequence of events.
Police Register Case
A Rajendranagar Police official confirmed that a case had been registered in connection with the incident.
“We have registered a case, and investigation is underway,” the police official said.
Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the assault and the events that led to Mukarram’s death. Reports said further details about the accused and any arrests were awaited.
MLA Demands Action Against Accused
Mubeen visited the victim’s family and called for swift action against those responsible.
He alleged that some of the people involved were known troublemakers in the Vattapally area and urged senior police officials to increase patrolling in the locality.
“Azeem, Shoeb and their associates are rowdy-sheeters and are creating hooliganism in the entire Vattapally area,” Mubeen alleged.
He also claimed that the incident was the second murder on the same road within a month, and called on the Rajendranagar Deputy Commissioner of Police and Hyderabad Police Commissioner to take immediate action.
