AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi used a public meeting in Kanpur on Sunday to combine a light-hearted message about expressing love with a political appeal ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
During his address, Owaisi asked people not to hide their feelings for their spouses and used the example to make a broader point about expressing political support openly. He also announced that the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen would contest the Kanpur Cantt Assembly constituency.
Owaisi’s Kanpur visit comes as AIMIM steps up its organisational activities in Uttar Pradesh. The party has also indicated that it is open to an alliance with other parties and that a decision on any electoral tie-up would be announced by October 2.
Owaisi’s ‘I Love You’ Message To Voters
Speaking about relationships, Owaisi encouraged married people to tell their wives that they loved them rather than keeping their feelings to themselves.
He referred to the popular Hindi film song “Jab Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya” while making the point that people should not be afraid to openly express their feelings.
Owaisi then connected the example to politics, saying voters would also hear political leaders asking for their support and votes. He urged his audience to remember the importance of their vote while making their political choices.
He also asked AIMIM supporters to express their support for the party without hesitation.
AIMIM Announces Kanpur Cantt Election Plan
A major political announcement at the meeting was AIMIM’s decision to contest from Kanpur Cantt in the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
Owaisi said the party had made a mistake by not contesting the seat in the previous election and indicated that AIMIM would field a candidate this time.
He also said he planned to visit Kanpur several times during the election campaign as the party works to strengthen its presence in the state.
AIMIM has been increasing its political activity in Uttar Pradesh as it prepares for the 2027 Assembly elections. Owaisi has said the party is willing to talk to other parties that share its objective of keeping the BJP out of government, while the final alliance decision is expected by October 2.
Owaisi Attacks BJP And Seeks Opposition Alliance
During the meeting, Owaisi criticised the BJP and said AIMIM did not want the party to return to power in Uttar Pradesh for another term.
He also appealed to parties interested in an alliance to engage with AIMIM. The remarks come as opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh begin preparing for the 2027 Assembly election.
Owaisi has separately said that AIMIM is ready to work with “like-minded” parties and that no single opposition party can challenge the BJP on its own. These comments were made as the party began expanding its organisational activities across different parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Attack On Samajwadi Party And Akhilesh Yadav
Owaisi also criticised the Samajwadi Party and its leadership while referring to the political record of previous governments in Uttar Pradesh.
He raised the 2013 Muzaffarnagar violence and questioned the political response to the displacement caused by the violence during the tenure of the then state government.
In his Kanpur speech, Owaisi also questioned political parties that have traditionally received support from Muslim voters, asking why the community continues to face problems related to education and social development.
According to reporting on his speech, Owaisi cited a figure claiming that 70% of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh above the age of 15 had not completed primary education. The figure was presented as part of his political argument about the condition of the community.
Owaisi Raises Cow Vigilante Violence
The AIMIM chief also spoke about incidents involving alleged attacks by cow vigilantes.
Referring to a man identified as Rizwan, Owaisi alleged that he had been assaulted after being accused of transporting meat. He referred to a video reportedly recorded by Rizwan from hospital and used the incident to raise concerns about violence and the treatment of Muslims.
Owaisi described cow vigilantes using strong language during his speech, making the issue part of his wider criticism of the political and social situation in Uttar Pradesh.
These remarks were allegations made during Owaisi’s political address and do not by themselves establish the circumstances of the incident.
1857 Revolt And Freedom Fighters Mentioned
Owaisi also invoked the history of the 1857 uprising and the contribution of freedom fighters while addressing the Kanpur gathering.
He referred to figures including Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar and Azimullah Khan and urged people to remember those who participated in India’s freedom movement.
The AIMIM chief linked those historical references to his appeal for people to speak up about their rights and political concerns.
AIMIM Steps Up Uttar Pradesh Campaign
The Kanpur meeting is part of AIMIM’s preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
Owaisi is scheduled to continue visiting different parts of the state as the party builds its organisation and reaches out to potential supporters. Recent reporting said he was expected to visit Shravasti and Azamgarh as part of the party’s programme.
For now, AIMIM has announced its intention to contest Kanpur Cantt, while the party’s broader alliance strategy remains under discussion. Owaisi has said an announcement on any alliance will be made after October 2.
