Chennai: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar strongly opposed the proposed delimitation, vowing that Karnataka would not allow a reduction in its parliamentary seats under any circumstances. He extended his support to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who has initiated a joint effort to challenge the delimitation process, calling it an attack on federalism.

“I congratulate MK Stalin for taking the first step. We are proud that he is protecting the federal structure and the Constitution of this country. We will stand united to ensure our seats are not reduced,” Shivakumar said in Chennai, where he attended the first Joint Action Committee meeting on the issue. He also took a swipe at the BJP, stating, “I welcome all the BJP black flags. I am not afraid even if they send me to Tihar jail.”

The meeting, convened by Stalin, saw the participation of several opposition leaders, including Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, and BRS leader KT Rama Rao. Leaders from Odisha, Punjab, and Kerala also arrived to show solidarity.

Stalin had invited chief ministers and political leaders from seven states to join hands in opposing the delimitation process, which he claimed was an “unfair exercise” that penalizes states that have successfully controlled population growth.
