Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao has extended full support to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s stance against the proposed delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies, arguing that it unfairly impacts South Indian states.
Echoing Stalin’s concerns, KTR stated that states that effectively controlled population growth should not be punished. “I completely stand with Thiru Stalin on this. It is unfair to penalize the southern states for implementing family planning when the country needed it the most,” he posted on ‘X’.
Rao criticized the idea of delimitation based solely on population, calling it a violation of democratic and federal principles. He suggested an alternative approach where representation should be based on states’ economic contributions rather than just population size.
“If the Centre is determined to proceed with delimitation, I propose it be linked to states’ fiscal contributions. Telangana, despite making up only 2.8% of India’s population, contributes over 5.2% to the nation’s GDP. The role of Telangana and other southern states in nation-building cannot be ignored,” he asserted.
Stalin had earlier emphasized that delimitation is not just a Tamil Nadu issue but a challenge for the entire southern region. “A truly democratic system should not punish states that have managed population growth efficiently, driven development, and played a crucial role in national progress. We need a transparent and fair approach that strengthens federalism,” he remarked.
