Srinagar: In 1996, the International Association of Athletes founded the World Athletics Day with the aim of increasing public awareness and to educate youngsters in the field of athletics. Athletics is the oldest form of organised sports consisting of running, walking, jumping and throwing.
With an aim to motivate youth to take up running as a sport and a hobby and to educate them on the importance of physical fitness, A ‘Josh Run’ was organised by Jugtiyal COB of Indian Army on the occasion of World Athletics Day. A total of 125 youth and children from various schools and age groups participated in the event and enjoyed the experience.
Also, to boost the participation of youth in athletics, a sports event was organised for students of AGS Trehgam. The event included 200-meter sprint, long jump and high jump. It was inspiring to see the girls taking part in the event with full enthusiasm and giving tough competition to their counterparts. Also, this event was the first of its kind organised in the area after the Covid-19 pandemic where all schools were shut for two years.
The boys and girls showed much enthusiasm since outdoor activities were at a low due to the holy month of Ramzan which concluded on May 3. Children danced and enjoyed various patriotic songs after an energetic and enthusiastic run. Most of them even expressed that this was the first time that they ran in an organised run which was full of fun and never knew they could run so much. Also, they would be continuing this activity daily to keep themselves fit.
