New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during a session titled “India’s Rise and Role in the World” at Chatham House in London, addressed the Kashmir issue, emphasizing the Indian government’s measures to resolve longstanding challenges in the region.

Jaishankar highlighted the abrogation of Article 370 as a pivotal step, stating that it was a temporary provision that had fostered separatism, violence, and terrorism by preventing progressive laws from being extended to Jammu and Kashmir.

He further noted that the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019 has led to visible benefits in the region, including the extension of progressive laws to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Jaishankar asserted that the remaining aspect of resolving the Kashmir issue involves reclaiming the territory under illegal Pakistani occupation.

In summary, Jaishankar conveyed that the Indian government’s initiatives, including the abrogation of Article 370, have addressed significant challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, with the focus now on reclaiming PoK to fully resolve the Kashmir issue.
