External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, hosted by Pakistan. However, Jaishankar made it clear that no bilateral talks with Pakistan are on the agenda during his visit.

India had earlier confirmed that Jaishankar would lead the Indian delegation at the SCO summit, marking a significant diplomatic event amid the ongoing tensions between the two neighboring countries.

Relations between India and Pakistan have remained strained, particularly after India’s airstrikes on terrorist bases in Pakistan in 2019, following the Pulwama attack. Tensions further escalated when India revoked Article 370, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status in August 2019. Pakistan has consistently opposed the move, leading to a further deterioration in ties.

Despite the shared platform at the SCO summit, Jaishankar’s visit is expected to focus solely on multilateral discussions, avoiding any direct engagement with Pakistani officials on the sidelines.
