In response to heavy rains that have left parts of Bengaluru submerged, the Karnataka government has announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in the city on Wednesday. The decision was made by Bengaluru Urban District Collector Jagadeesha, following forecasts of continued rain over the next few days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Bengaluru, predicting more heavy rainfall. Schools had just reopened after the Dasara break, and some schools have asked teachers to hold online classes for senior students. Thursday is already a public holiday due to Valmiki Jayanti.

Bengaluru’s civic body, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), said its flood management team is fully operational to assist residents. In a statement, BBMP said, “We are actively addressing areas affected by the rain, and systems are in place to manage the situation.”

The BBMP also urged residents to leave their homes only if necessary, advising caution in areas likely to be further impacted by the rainfall.
