New Delhi: In a massive nationwide effort to ensure a comfortable and hassle-free festive journey, Indian Railways has deployed more than 12,000 special trains across the country to handle the surge of passengers traveling for the festival season. The initiative aims to make travel smoother, safer, and more enjoyable as millions of passengers head home to celebrate with their families.
To manage the overwhelming rush, the Railways has established special holding areas at key stations such as New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Udhna, equipped with seating, restrooms, and refreshment facilities. Railway staff and volunteers are working around the clock to guide passengers, maintain order, and ensure everyone’s safety. Over 900 additional train trips are scheduled in the next three days alone to accommodate the festive crowd.
As the return journey begins after Chhath Puja, the Railways has announced 6,181 special trains between October 28 and November end to facilitate passengers returning to workplaces after the celebrations.
In Bihar, where the Chhath festival holds immense cultural importance, nearly 30 stations—including Patna, Danapur, Rajendra Nagar, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya—have been upgraded with additional ticket counters, CCTV surveillance, and passenger-friendly facilities. Weather-proof waiting zones have also been created for large crowds, ensuring comfort before departure.
To streamline ticketing, the Railways has expanded facilities such as Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters, and mobile ticketing (m-UTS) services. In a heartwarming move, Chhath songs are being played at major stations like Patna, Hajipur, Bhagalpur, and New Delhi, adding a festive touch and connecting travelers to their cultural roots.
For passenger safety, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been deployed in adequate strength across all major routes. Dedicated war rooms at the Railway Board, Zonal, and Divisional levels are operating 24/7 to monitor operations and provide real-time assistance. Medical booths, fire brigade units, and ambulances have also been stationed at major hubs like Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Gaya to address emergencies swiftly.
