Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday approached city police authorities demanding criminal action against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that a controversial social media post amounted to communal provocation and hate messaging.
According to the complaint, a video clip earlier shared from the Assam BJP’s official social media handle showed a man resembling the Chief Minister aiming a firearm and discharging it in the direction of two individuals portrayed with distinct religious markers. The clip was accompanied by a caption that Owaisi claims carried violent and inflammatory undertones. The video was later taken down, but screenshots and recordings continue to circulate online.
In a public statement, Owaisi said that such visuals normalise extreme rhetoric and contribute to an atmosphere of fear and hostility. He argued that the repeated circulation of violent imagery against identifiable communities reflects a dangerous pattern in public discourse.
The AIMIM leader has accused the Assam Chief Minister of intentionally sharing content that could hurt religious sentiments, deepen communal divisions, and undermine social harmony. The complaint also alleges that the post could disturb public order and weaken the spirit of national unity by portraying violence in a communal context.
Owaisi has urged the police to register a case and conduct a thorough investigation into the origin and intent of the video, even though it has since been deleted. He maintained that removal of the post does not erase its potential impact or legal consequences.
