The Haryana government has sanctioned a 21-day extension for the parole of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the imprisoned head of Dera Sacha Sauda. Ram Rahim, currently serving sentences in two rape cases and facing life imprisonment in two separate murder cases, has been granted his sixth temporary release within a span of 21 months.
This recent parole extension follows the previous one granted to Gurmeet Ram Rahim on July 20 of this year, spanning 30 days. The controversial figure was on parole during his birthday on August 15 and was reported to have stayed at his UP Ashram in Barwana, Baghpat.
This marks the sixth instance in the last 20 months and the fourth time in less than a year that Ram Rahim has been granted parole. Notably, prior paroles were sanctioned for 40 days in October 2022, aligning with the Haryana panchayat election and the Adampur Assembly bypoll. His initial parole was granted on October 24, 2020, marking the eighth instance in 38 months or three years that he has been temporarily released from incarceration.
