World Sustainable Development Summit Focuses on Partnerships for Climate Action

Mumbai : “Guyana stands as an example of leadership, collaboration, and progress in the pursuit of sustainability. Our development is guided by a strong focus on environmental sustainability,” said Guyana’s Prime Minister, H.E. Brigadier (Retd.) Mark Phillips at the 24th World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) in New Delhi. His remarks set the stage for the three-day global event, emphasising the need for international cooperation to address pressing environmental challenges.

Organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), WSDS 2025 is themed “Partnerships for Accelerating Sustainable Development and Climate Solutions.” It brings together global leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and other key stakeholders to drive solutions for climate resilience and sustainability.

Delivering the inaugural address, Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav reaffirmed India’s dedication to environmental conservation and sustainability. He underscored the need to combat speciesism—a mindset where human interests are prioritised over ecosystems and wildlife. “True sustainability can only be achieved when all living beings are given equal importance, and environmental policies actively support biodiversity conservation. The time for action is now,” he asserted.

Adding to the discussion, Brazil’s Minister for Environment and Climate Change, H.E. Marina Silva, stressed the need for swift implementation of global climate commitments. She urged nations to accelerate climate finance mechanisms and the transition away from fossil fuels, particularly as the world prepares for COP30.

Delivering the welcome address, TERI Chairman Nitin Desai highlighted the summit’s role in shaping the global sustainability dialogue. He stated, “TERI focuses on identifying key steps to drive partnerships that accelerate sustainable development.”

Meanwhile, TERI Director General Dr. Vibha Dhawan emphasised the power of collaboration and innovation in addressing climate change. She noted, “The pandemic has shown us that when we work together, finding solutions becomes possible.”

As TERI’s annual flagship event, WSDS has positioned itself as a leading platform for sustainability discussions and climate action. Over the years, it has brought together heads of state, ministers, industry leaders, and scholars to shape policies, influence decision-making, and drive impactful collaborations.

With a focus on partnership-driven climate solutions, WSDS 2025 is expected to deliver key takeaways for sustainable development, international cooperation, and actionable environmental strategies.
