In a significant political turn of events, Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh declared on Wednesday that he would be entering the electoral arena, just days after withdrawing his candidature from Bengal’s Asansol constituency.
Taking to social media platform X, Pawan Singh reached out to the public seeking their blessings and support for his electoral bid.
“I will contest elections to fulfill the promise made to my society, people, and mother. Your blessings and cooperation are expected. ‘Jai Mata Di’,” he conveyed on X.
However, the Bhojpuri artist has not yet disclosed the constituency or the political party from which he will be contesting.
Earlier, Pawan Singh had unexpectedly withdrawn from the Lok Sabha race on March 3.
In an official statement posted on X, Singh expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for entrusting him with the candidacy for West Bengal’s Asansol. However, he cited undisclosed reasons for his decision to step back from the electoral fray.
Adding to the intrigue surrounding Singh’s withdrawal, Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the ruling Trinamool Congress and nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, commented on Singh’s post, lauding the spirit and power of the people of West Bengal.
Following Pawan Singh’s initial decision not to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Asansol, Congress leader Pawan Khera raised questions about the BJP’s choice of candidates.
“On one hand, the BJP is highlighting the Sandeshkali incident, and on the other hand, it is fielding singers like Pawan Singh to contest polls,” remarked Khera.
He further questioned whether Prime Minister Modi was aware of Pawan Singh’s image and suitability for political office.
“This is an interesting case. All the agencies are under the control of the PM. Wasn’t he aware of Pawan Singh’s image? Now he gets to know that after 24 hours. This depicts what kind of government there is in the country,” Khera remarked to ANI, suggesting a lack of oversight in candidate selection processes.
