Renowned filmmaker Boney Kapoor finds himself entangled in a legal dispute as allegations of unpaid bills amounting to a staggering Rs 1 crore have surfaced against him. The accusations stem from a vendor who supplied equipment during the production of the highly anticipated film, ‘Maidaan’, starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role.
According to reports, Meherafrin Investments Private Limited has filed a case against Kapoor and the co-producers of ‘Maidaan’, asserting that despite repeated attempts to seek payment, the filmmaker has allegedly delayed settling the bills, with outstanding dues dating back to December 2020.
In response to these allegations, Kapoor clarified that the actual amount owed to the vendor stands at Rs 63 lakh. He assured that the pending dues will be cleared before the scheduled Eid release of ‘Maidaan’.
“Everybody knows that the picture was stuck because of COVID. I have made 45 films and nobody has been deprived in my company. This is nothing but an arm-twisting tactic,” Kapoor stated, refuting the claims made against him.
The journey of ‘Maidaan’ has been riddled with challenges, including delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite being announced several years ago, the film faced hurdles that prevented its release in the past couple of years.
‘Maidaan’ chronicles the life and legacy of Syed Abdul Rahim, a pioneering football coach whose influence reshaped the sport in India during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Alongside Devgn’s portrayal of Rahim, the film features a stellar cast including Priyamani, Keerthy Suresh, Gajraj Rao, and others in pivotal roles.
As the legal battle unfolds, the spotlight remains on the fate of ‘Maidaan’ and the resolution of the financial dispute surrounding its production, adding an unexpected twist to the eagerly anticipated sports drama.
