Srinagar: In a rare medical occurrence, the ENT department at GMC Anantnag successfully removed a large snake-like worm from the nostril of an adolescent boy at MMABM Associated Hospital.
According to an official statement released to the media, the boy presented to the ENT department with a tail-like object protruding from his nostril. Upon examination by ENT resident Dr. Kishan, it was suspected that a large snake-like worm was lodged inside the boy’s nasal cavity.
After consulting with Head of the Department Dr. Aamir, suction was applied, leading to the successful extraction of the unusually large worm. The specimen has been sent to the forensic laboratory for detailed analysis to determine the exact nature of the parasite.
This extraordinary case highlights the advanced capabilities of the ENT department at GMC Anantnag, which has consistently delivered high-quality medical services. To date, the department has performed over 225 thyroid surgeries, more than 50 salivary gland and parotid surgeries, numerous maxillectomies, and successfully diagnosed and managed over 80 cases of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers.
Additionally, the team has undertaken rare and complex procedures such as endoscopic removal of angiofibromas, deep neck tumour excisions, total laryngectomies, glossectomies with flap reconstruction, endoscopic maxillectomies, and advanced parotid surgeries.
