Srinagar: A fierce encounter erupted in the Singhpora region of Chatroo in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Thursday morning, as security forces engaged in an intense firefight with a group of heavily armed terrorists believed to be hiding in the dense forests.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces launched a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) at first light. As the troops zeroed in on the suspected location, they came under fire, triggering a gunbattle.

“Exchange of fire started between Security Forces and terrorists in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Kishtwar,” said Jammu and Kashmir Police in a brief statement, as reported by ANI.

Initial reports suggest that three to four terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area. The forces have established multiple layers of cordons around the encounter site to prevent their escape. Drones and sniffer dogs have also been deployed to track movement in the thickly forested terrain.
