Drug de-addiction and counselling centre inaugurated at SDH Kupwara

Srinagar: A Drug De-addiction and Counselling Centre at Sub-District Hospital, (SDH) Kupwara was inaugurated on Tuesday by Maj Gen A S Pendharkar, YSM GOC 28 Infantry Division, Dr Bashir Ahmed, CMO SDH Kupwara in the presence of the other dignitaries from the Indian Army, civil administration and department of Health services. 

In his address GOC Maj Gen A S Pendharkar, emphasised on the relevance of fighting the menace of drugs collectively, which has been plaguing the society and the youth. The Medical Superintendent in his address urged the people to be sensitive towards this menace so as to treat the drug addicts as patients and not as criminals as per the latest World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

The CMO of SDH Kupwara brought out the relevant facts pertaining to the issues of drugs and how they end up destroying the lives of youth and their families. 

The Indian Army has been working closely with the Department of Health services and the civil administration to counter this menace and this initiative of opening the Drug De-addiction and Counselling Centre will prove to be a major game changer as far as countering the drug menace is concerned in Kupwara district.

The outreach programs have been instrumental in creating the much-needed awareness among the youth and elders alike. Together we must pledge to be the change and build a brighter future for the upcoming generations and make this ever-beautiful city of Kupwara ‘Nasha Mukt’ (addiction free).
