DK Shivakumar Shocks Karnataka Assembly by Reciting RSS Song Amid Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede Debate

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar created a stir in the Assembly on Friday when he unexpectedly recited an RSS song during a heated discussion on the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that claimed 11 lives.

The episode unfolded as BJP legislators accused Shivakumar of abetting the stampede by allegedly creating a mass frenzy. They claimed he had accompanied the RCB team from the airport to the stadium, waving the Kannada flag and celebrating along the route.

In response, Shivakumar defended his actions, stating that he attended the event as a member of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and as Bengaluru’s in-charge minister. “I did wish them (RCB), I kissed the cup as well. I have done my job,” he said, adding that accidents of this kind had occurred in other states too.

The intensity escalated when Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka reminded Shivakumar of once admitting to wearing “RSS chaddi.” In a surprising twist, Shivakumar broke into the RSS anthem, drawing laughter across the House. BJP MLA V Sunil Kumar remarked, “Hope these lines are not removed from the records.”

While BJP legislators welcomed the recital with loud desk-thumping, Congress benches remained silent. The moment quickly went viral on social media, with users speculating that Shivakumar’s move might be a cryptic message aimed at the Congress high command.
