Srinagar: In honour of Police Commemoration Day 2024 and as part of Police Flag Day observance (October 21-31), the Police Martyrs Football Tournament was inaugurated today at the Football Ground, Government Higher Secondary School, Kupwara.
This tournament was organized under the Civic Action Programme-2024 to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the police force and aims to promote community engagement and participation of youth in sports.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Ghulam Jeelani Wani – JKPS, SSP Kupwara. The event kicked off with an inaugural match between Yamin FC Lalpora and Trehgam FC, where Yamin FC emerged victorious with a scoreline of 2-1. The tournament is witnessing participation of 16 football teams from across the district.
The inaugural ceremony saw presence of several officers from District Police including Ghulam Mohammad Bhat – JKPS, Addl SP Kupwara; Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq – JKPS, DySP DAR Kupwara; Rafee Rather – JKPS, DySP Hqrs Kupwara, along with other officers from District Police Kupwara.
This tournament not only commemorates the sacrifices made by our police martyrs but also serves as a platform for promoting peace, unity, and engagement within the community.
