In a sudden turn of events, a diplomatic crisis has unfolded between Iran and Pakistan after Iran targeted two bases belonging to Jaish al-Adl militants in Balochistan province. The strike, conducted using drones and missiles, has been labeled as an “illegal and unacceptable act” by Pakistan’s foreign ministry, leading to a severe strain in relations between the neighboring nations.

The incident comes at a time of heightened regional conflict, with tensions already fueled by the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East. Pakistan, reacting strongly, has reserved the right to respond, making it the second of Iran’s neighbors to register a complaint about an attack on its soil within a 24-hour period. Earlier, Iraq criticized a deadly Iranian missile strike on an Israeli spy base in Iraqi Kurdistan, retaliation for the killing of an Iranian commander in Syria.

The repercussions of the strike have escalated beyond military actions. Pakistan has recalled its ambassador from Iran and prevented Tehran’s envoy from returning to Islamabad. The foreign ministry of Pakistan issued a stern statement, condemning the “unprovoked and blatant breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty by Iran” as a violation of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The strike inside Pakistani territory has resulted in casualties, including the tragic loss of two children and injuries to three others. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian charge d’affaires in protest against the “unprovoked violation of its airspace,” holding Iran responsible for the consequences and emphasizing that such unilateral acts undermine bilateral trust and confidence.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, chairman of the Pakistani Senate’s defense committee, stressed the need for diplomatic dialogue to address the root causes of the issue. He highlighted the importance of seeking talks to eliminate ungoverned spaces in both Iran and Pakistan, which could potentially be exploited by terrorists against each other.
