New Delhi: In a major step towards modernizing Delhi’s power infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood jointly inaugurated a pilot project to convert overhead electricity wires into an underground network at the Janata Flats in Shalimar Bagh.
The initiative marks the beginning of a broader vision aimed at transforming Delhi into a city free from the clutter of overhead electric lines. Speaking at the event, CM Rekha Gupta said, “Making overhead wires underground is a pilot project for Delhi. It is a vision and idea that our Delhi becomes overhead wire-free… I am happy that through this project, the government is working to provide a new facility to the people of Delhi… A time will come when not a single wire will be visible in Delhi…”
The project is expected to not only improve the aesthetics of the city but also enhance safety and reliability in electricity distribution.
Minister Ashish Sood, who was also present at the launch, praised the leadership of the Chief Minister in taking the capital towards infrastructural development. He remarked, “Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, there is an effort to make Delhi free from wires. The Delhi government had zero funds in the name of capital expenditure. We are gradually working to make Delhi’s electricity infrastructure robust… With the blessings of Delhi’s people, we will take this work forward.”
