Entire Family Buried Under Debris As Old House Gives Way
A devastating tragedy struck Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district in the early hours of Thursday after a nearly century-old house collapsed while its occupants were asleep, leaving six members of the same family dead. Only one member of the family survived the incident.
The collapse occurred around 2 am in Mahuli village, where the ageing structure suddenly gave way, trapping everyone inside beneath the rubble.
Villagers Join Rescue Efforts After Hearing Cries
Residents rushed to the spot immediately after hearing cries for help and informed the police and district administration. Rescue teams from the police and fire department, assisted by villagers, carried out an emergency operation to pull the victims from the debris.
All the injured were taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared six of them dead.
The deceased have been identified as Pramod Srivastava (60), Rita, Nitin, Madhuri, Madhav and Advik. The victims included three generations of the same family.
One Family Member Survives The Collapse
Pramod Srivastava’s 28-year-old son, Aman, was the only survivor. He was rescued from the debris and is reported to be in stable condition without any major injuries.
Authorities are continuing to assess the incident while extending assistance to the bereaved family.
Old Structure Suspected Behind The Tragedy
Preliminary information suggests the house was nearly 100 years old and had fallen into a severely weakened condition. Although officials have not yet confirmed the exact reason for the collapse, the deteriorating state of the building is believed to have played a major role.
